Ueno Park

Sitting in air-conditioned comfort on the Skyliner Narita express. Disappointingly slow on the trip in but it misses lots of stations and looks fast and proved so on the return run. Expensive too!

We have spent Y4800 per person which means $150 for our brief visit to Tokyo. It was worth it. Despite being thoroughly Westernised, there are still plenty of Japanese touches that make it so different from our North American destination.

The weather is hot and sticky. My shorts may not look stylish but they work here and were good on the plane.

We had an enjoyable morning in Ueno Park which is popular with Japanese, especially on a Saturday as it has Shrines, Museums and the Zoo with a panda. Very polite and honest people from our brief visit. The humidity defeated your Mum who enjoys the air-conditioning.
Taking lots of photos but the highlights today have been the carp in Shinobazu Pond, in Ueno Park and then the narrow shopping streets with their neon signs and Western attractions - an Undies Club among other delights!

Ueno Park was a real find. Most travelers would be horrified at the lack of research Rob and I have done into planning the little time we have in Tokyo. Fortunately, a local befriended us at the airport yesterday and advised this day trip for us. Of course we could not do the area justice - Art Galleries, Natural Museaum, Buddha Shrines, Concert Halls and Zoo will have to wait for another day. But we loved the strolling through the park and tightly packed market streets behind the station. My sense of direction was totally faulty but fortunately Rob wend our way back to the Station. Next visit I am certainly going to bring my parasol for shade and a fan for the heat. Hopefully the hotel will allow us to shower before we leave for the airport. Ok a food entry - We resisted the bananas on sticks, the deep frying food stalls and succumbed to a morning exceedingly weak cappuccino and thick toast with smoked salmon and avocado.

- All my own work. RV. Except for the bits by Tess.
