Tracy Arm Fjord

It is almost 6am by the current time zone and we are dawdling along surrounded by the fjord. It is too early for good light but there is no wind and the temperature is mild.

Tess is asleep. We had a terrific meal in the steakhouse. The food in the main restaurant is fine but it is serving 2000 guests. I'm surprised the small number prepared to pay an additional $30 for a completely different dining experience. Tess pigged outa bit on lobster and felt queezy last night so I'm letting her sleep it off. I'm off to the gym before the crowds and before breakfast arrives at 8am.

Here is a picture I took before our departure. Not as reassuring a sight as I expect it is meant to be.

Saw my first iceberg! As big as a car. Whales have been spotted but again, hard to distinguish from a white horse. Need more sunshine!
We were muscled out of our prime viewpoint in the public lounge on deck two but no matter - we repaired to our stateroom and have enjoyed much better viewing.
I had not really known what to expect in Alaska despite watching countless nature documentaries. The cold air, icy cold looking water, not to mention the passing bergs adds so much to the experience. We have spent the past hour dashing out with camera or binoculars, taking in the view and then retreating to the comfort of the cabin. And some room service. Thirsty work walking long corridors in cold weather. The kids can fight over my souvenir ship's funnel drink holder.

- All my own work. RV. Except for the bits by Tess.
