The big show of the week, Bourbon Street was a disappointment for me. Fortunately, I managed to doze through much of it despite the sound being so loud as to be distorted. Considering the sophisticated desk they have in the Pharaoh's Palace, it was surprising they didn't get it right.
Anyone from New Orleans would have hated the show, which lacked any real story but certainly highlighted the usual stereotypes of "the Big Easy". Yes, Stu, the cruise director from Oz, used that plenty of times in spruiking the show. Tess liked it so ask her for more details. The ladies behind us enjoyed it, singing along to the many familiar 60s and 70s hits. They know their audience. Stu said it was the best show we'd see on a cruise ship anywhere. I doubt it.
As we queued to board, a couple from New York advised us to ask for Open Dining which meant you did not have to eat at your allocated table and set time. So we organised it from the third night. Unfortunately, I failed to mention it to our fellow diners on our first dinner and we never managed to get back to explain how we had eaten after that. So apologies, table 280, it wasn't you, it was just we liked the flexibility.
On the second night, we ate at the "Nouveau Steakhouse" on Deck 10, a glass staircase above the Lobby Bar way below. For $30 per head, as opposed to the free dining available at Table 280 in the Empire Dining room (capacity 1200), you had the best service and food on offer. Tess found the presentation cart with the meats available reminded her of "The Restaurant at the End of the Universe" but the food was great.
One of our three waiters suggested we apply for the Chef's Table dinner later in the cruise. This promised a 7 course meal with wines and a tour of the galley by the head chef. So we did. It cost $70 per head but promised a lot.
The next night we were exhausted after two tours at Skagway and were grateful to be able to eat by ourselves a little later than our designated time. Desserts were particularly disappointing except for their ice-cream but most guests seemed happy with the quantities! Our waiter suggested we order two starters as they were small helpings. We did once.
Finishing this in our spacious room at the Holiday Inn Express. Helpful staff, everything you need and reasonably priced. Off to the ferry terminal for Victoria (again!) tomorrow morning when we can start relaxing again with just Vancouver to go.
I may add some photos of our tour of Seattle later to this but after a week without wifi, I thought I'd post things as they are.

- All my own work. RV. Except for the bits by Tess.
