Posh Paddle

Preparations at Double Bay for a much anticipated paddle around
Millionaires row. Pennell and the Vines contingents arrived amazingly together at 8.20am Saturday morning. Overcast with a southerly blowing 10 knots with gusts to 20, not ideal for the kayaks.

Final checks

Rachel had taken Tess seat while the wives happily wandered off to shop and coffee. The southerly pushed us deceptively easily up the harbour into Rushcutters Bay, to manoeuvre among the yachts of CYC. Impressive. We paused to take some shots with Russell's phone with Garden Island and the Bridge in the background.

As we peddled further into the bay, I heard a cry for help! Russ had managed to capsize, the yak turning a full 180 degrees, mast somewhere below in the deepish water.

With some advice from the only sailor at hand (me) the old man of the sea managed to right his craft and scramble into it. Pleased not to lose anything, as it seemed, although we later discovered my CB radio had suffered damage, we paddled on through the restricted waters of the naval base.

Rounding the point near Mrs Macquarie's Chair, we turned our backs on fort Denison and the Bridge and battled our way across the blustery and choppy harbour towards Double Bay. It was hard work but fortunately there was no more capsizing ANC we managed to reach calm waters and land. Tess and Nev had somehow managed to shop for the entire two hours and we called it a day.

We continued east by vehicle and enjoyed an early lunch at Watson's Bay pub. We'll keep that bay for another day!

Great outing:-))
