Bundeena Paddle

Sunday, 27 May, Russ and I set out around 7am for the 1.5 hour journey to Sutherland and Royal NAtional Park, to check out camping spots around Bundeena. This is the view towards our destination, some way up the Hacking River.

Burraneer Bay is home to some wonderful real estate, and the houses above are quite nice too.

It was pleasant for a late Autumn day. Water temperature was cool but conditions were perfect for peddling.

There was a gusty breeze that whipped up a chop and some spray but my forehead hand served as an effective wind block.

We were headed for Audley weir and managed about half the distance.

We passed several substantial dwellings in the Park and plenty of walkers and fellow paddlers.

An awful photo (thanks Russ!) but it does show the action used with the Hobie's penguin or Mirage Drive. Almost 3 hours with no real fatigue.

We paused on our upstream paddle in this quiet cove. Could have stayed longer.

Port Hacking is shallow and the channel narrow and variable. Port Jackson it ain't!

Safely negotiated the Maianbar break!

The crew appreciated the hot showers and BBQs provided by NPWS.

We went for a walk to Maianbar township and passed some beach shacks along the way.

Russ was interested in this gullwing toyota.

While I snapped the mangrove swamp with my hand-me-down iPhone.

Remember the movie the Iron Giant? Looks like he's back!

Some people have got less sense than ....?

I hope to return to Bundeena but the river is accessible from Lilli Pillli and other points so who knows??

Autumn Colour

A bonus for my morning walk at the moment are all the Liquid Amber trees and others, showing their Autumn splendour.

I called this one "Split Personality" due to its sharp sunnyside/shade side division of colour.

I called this "Tortured Trunks" as anyone with trees near powerlines will understand. Not sure why it is date stamped!

We had a Liquid Amber in our previous home. Disposing of leaves was a big problem. They are a lovely tree .... in someone else's yard!

I decided not to crop people, powerlines or bins. These trees brighten up the streetscape as long as you look up:)

Exhibition Ends

We brought home the 55 drawings (otherwise known by Tess as her family) from the Braemar Gallery on Sunday to mark the end of a successful show. The Gallery seemed busy on all three weekends, and not just with the many friends and family who managed a visit. Tess was kept talking and socialising - unusual for her and probably very therapeutic.

Tess with Kirby B

We both enjoyed the experience although I realise I had the preferred role of husband of famous artist, which involved no pressure or worry about what people thought of my art. Apparently Tess had the odd concern.

Pat and Nev paid a visit.

Tess even managed to sell half a dozen paintings, although I think we are still waiting for the first sale to a total stranger. We hold out hope for the billionaire friend of one visitor who enjoyed the show.

So did Kate and Pete.

The staff at the Braemar were wonderful and I will make sure I take a few photos of them next time. Tess is keen to put on another show next year, probably at the same gallery.

Final weekend family visitors from the 'Gong.

Farewell the bustling world of the Art Exhibition!
