T Minus 24 and counting

OR

Third time lucky..........

Followers,

I HATE Blogpress, the program I'm using now.

Yesterday, I wrote a witty and informative entry a couple of days out from my ski trip to Japan. I was just about to add a photo to finish the entry, when it disappeared! Stupid design if you ask me. Almost gave up on the whole idea of a Blog. Pity you:)

The next fortnight promises to be an adventure, given my lack of Japanese
and recent skiing experience. In fact, apart from one day in NZ in 2010 before I broke my leg walking, it has been 9 years since I did any meaningful skiing. And even then I felt unfit!

Currently I am sweltering in a typical western Sydney summer's day. Tuesday night I will emerge from Narita onto snow covered streets, given my luck. It will make a pleasant change.

I am travelling with a Perth couple, Ross and Jean. Ross I have known since childhood and suspect this attempt to turn back time and re-live our skiing past may be a devious form of payback for some ancient grudge. I'm hoping his hip replacement may slow him down. He and Jean have been swanning around the world this past year skiing and sailing in what he calls a Gap year but you and I know as Retirement.

The ski holiday strikes me as another desperate attempt to deny reality and start acting our age. Worth a try, I guess.

Nagano is the region closest to where we are skiing. Can't spell the resort names yet so that will have to wait. We are staying and eating like locals which has me worried about my chopstick technique and ability to sleep on a mat or futon. I will feel like a giant.

The nude bathing has me a little concerned too. The Powderhound site I read said men should "sculpt their bodies" a bit before going but I've left it too late for steroids to have any visual effect. The Japanese are a polite people by all reports so I guess no one will laugh out loud.

I'm going to try for a photo now. Wish me luck. Next post should be from my room in Tokyo after close to 20 hours of travel. Don't expect much:)
