Saturday 18 January, day T Plus 5

Starting this early before breakfast at 7.30 sharp. I noticed last night's effort was pretty pathetic, showing my tiredness. Probably need the rest day on Sunday when we travel back to Nagano and out to Hakaba.
Will also take a few more photos of the resort. Cheers!
As promised some more of Nozawaonsen.

Just an old guy sculpting snow.

Japanese seem close to animistic beliefs. Fire festivals??

View from my room again.

Interesting shaped lodge near lifts.

Perfect weather today turned us all into powder hounds. Exhausting but fun. This is the final kilometre or so of the Skyline run.

Muscles felt better today but knees are complaining now.
Apart from a wonderful days skiing, I missed my turn on the walk home and found myself leaving town, adding an extra kilometre I could have done without.
Checked on the bus to Nagano. Have to catch one from there out to Hakaba, a purpose built ski resort but hopefully with charms of its own. This old spa town is hard to beat.

Once I found my way back to Lodge Fujiyoshi, I enjoyed another hot bath in the private Onsen here. But ross wanted to try the most famous one so off we went with our modesty towel and joined the crush. There are three wood lined baths, large enough for 6-8 men. It was hot but not scalding like the one Ross tried yesterday. There are still plenty of locals who use them as their public bath although there re increasing numbers of tourists who a welcomed providing you obey the rules.

After all that, we sat down to a 7 course banquet served by our hostess here. Tofu, chicken, marlin were among the dishes easy to identify. Filling and delicious. 2000 yen. Bargain!
Now the challenge is to stay up till 10. As it is currently just after 8, I don't like my chances.
Sayonara Nozawaonsen!

my own work - sorry!
