Day 1 - Tokyo

So here I am sitting on a floor mat at a low table in my Tokyo hotel. Snow is forecast today as we head north on a bullet train (anyone know it's Japanese name?) to Nagano.
My room is spacious and quiet. The hotel advertises itself as made of concrete which must be handy in earthquakes. It is 12 years old. Sleep on the floor okay but sitting like this never suited my joints even as a child. Remember sitting in class in kindergarten? I was the one squirming in discomfort with unbent legs!

Woke at 6.23 Sydney time so have plenty of quiet time before we discuss breakfast at 7am, still over an hour away!

Dinner last night consisted of a takeaway meat dumpling and sushi roll without the wrapping. I was not able to understand how to add the leaf to the rice. It was probably the Japanese equivalent of the pie and beer meal I ate on Jetstar yesterday. The Qantas flight to Cairns was much more civilised so I'm glad I travel home direct with them.
