Today was damp and grey so we did not rush out. We did try to find the hairdresser for Tess tomorrow and despite a map and nav phone and finding the right address, there was no sign of said hairdresser. Our journey had taken us into a part of Leeds even seedier than the station area near our Novotel with rundown or closed shops of dubious repute and one alley with people living rough – I steered Tess away from that one. Fortunately it was not too hard to make our way to the station area in the drizzle that had begun and we entered the hotel that advertised free wifi for a coffee.
It was good to finally get online.
We considered driving to Whitby (Cook's home town) but decided instead to see Bronte country. I made one small exit blunder which took us from the ring road to the suburbs and a loooong slow journey. Lucky we were on holiday or I might have become upset. We passed slowly through Shipley towards Keighley (lovely floral roundabout and caastle) and then Haworth. The weather was not conducive to strolling so we drove through the coutryside which was not as bleak as Emily Bronte oft suggested.
After taking further wrong turns in tiny villages we finally made it to the Leeds road and with the help of Bossy Boots – our name for the Nokia Navigator – we drove quickly direct to the hotel. We same to have taken a different route each time – 8 or more!
Tomorrow, Tess does her hair while I sip net dor with free wifi and in the afternoon we hope that Emma will have handed in her essay and allow us to catch up with her. Then Whitby on Saturday – looking forward to that. Tonight it's Tapas as you-know-where so Tess can upload her fotos to Facebook. The TV is woeful here so the Net is a much more interesting distraction. BTW, the Novotel pizza last night was rubbish – our fault for playing it safe with a chain hotel.
Cheers:)
